News Release: X2/90-2724-X,S November 12, 1990
X3 ANNOUNCES THE FORMATION OF A NEW TECHNICAL COMMITTEE,
X3J18, TO DEVELOP AN AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD FOR
PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE REXX
Washington, D.C. -- Accredited Standards Committee X3, Information
Processing Systems, announces the formation of a new Technical
Committee, X3J18, Programming Language REXX.
REXX is a programming language intended "to make programming easier
than it was before," according to the original designer of the
language, Michael F. Cowlishaw, in his book, "The REXX Language"
(Prentice-Hall, 1990). The standardized REXX language will include
alterations as decided by X3J18 to promote portability, reliability,
maintainability, and efficient execution of REXX programs on a variety
of computing systems. Both compiling and interpreting REXX programs
will be considered.
It is anticipated that the REXX standard can be completed in 1992.
Anyone interested in participating in this project is invited to
the first meeting of X3J18 on January 8-9, 1991, starting at
10:00 a.m. at CBEMA, 311 First St. NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC
20001-2178.
For further information, please contact the convener of X3J18 or
the X3 Secretariat.
